The Objective
  • If for financial or other reasons your organization cannot purchase a site or company-wide use license for a given e-resource, then you must restrict access to the appropriate persons or stations.
  • If certain e-resources or online accounts are only of interest to (or have been paid for by) individual faculties, departments, or working groups, you should make sure that only the users in that group or organizational unit have access to those resources.

HAN provides the solution:

Integrated access rights management: HAN allows you to restrict e-resources to exactly those users who are actually interested in them or have allocated the funds to subscribe to them. Access privileges can be granted by individual IP addresses, IP address ranges, host names, users and user groups, workstations and workgroups. Access to e-resources can be controlled by individual titles or title collections, or by any combination of title and publisher. In most cases HAN thus allows you to avoid the expense of site or company-wide licenses.
