Mobile Access

The Objective

  • Often users working at home or even abroad have no access to their e-resources from outside the campus or corporate network, even though, as members of the company or institution, they are licensed to use those resources. All authorized users should have access to e-resource subscriptions wherever they go.
  • Furthermore, there is generally no way of controlling what hardware, operating system or other software will be in use on the user's computer outside the campus or corporate network. Access to e-resources from outside the campus or corporate network should therefore require no special software installation or settings.

HAN provides the solution:

Transparent remote access: In the HAN architecture, all access to e-resources is routed through the HAN server. Users can browse to the HAN server in the Internet, authenticate themselves, and then receive the desired e-resources. Internet access to the HAN server requires no special software installation nor browser settings on the local computer. E-resources are accessible through HAN from any browser on any computer and operating system. Home offices and external workstations do not need to have RAS or VPN connections.
